Is Excel enough to sell on Vinted? When it is, when it isn't

Let's say it up front, against the grain: for many sellers Excel is more than enough. This isn't the usual guide that pretends to compare just to sell you something — it's the comparison we'd have wanted to read ourselves. Including the cases where you DON'T need a dedicated tool, said by the people who make one.

When Excel (or a notebook) really is enough

• You sell fewer than a dozen items a month: entering them by hand isn't a burden;
• You only sell your own stuff, without buying to resell: the margin matters less;
• You use a single computer and don't need your numbers always with you;
• Totals are all you need: how many sales, how much collected, done.

If that's you: open a sheet, make four columns (date, item, revenue, cost) and stop thinking about it. It's free, it's yours, it works.

When Excel starts costing you dearly

A spreadsheet never breaks all at once: it breaks slowly. The signs:

• You enter the data "later" — and later becomes never, and the numbers stop adding up;
• The questions get sharper: which category pays best? who are the customers who buy again? what times do I sell at? Excel can answer, but every answer is a formula to build and maintain;
• The DAC7 tax thresholds (30 sales / €2,000) have to be counted by hand, per calendar year — and if you miscount, you won't know (guide here);
• Multiple devices: the file lives on one PC, you don't.

Cloud tools: convenient, but at what price?

Marketplace management tools solve all of this, but almost all with the same model: your data ends up on their servers. Revenue, customer names, sometimes addresses. It works until it doesn't: then a breach, a data sale, a change of ownership — and your numbers belong to someone else. They also often cost €8-15/month, and some offer automations (re-listing, automatic messages) that violate Vinted's terms and put your account at risk.

The comparison, honest

In short

Few sales and simple questions → Excel, no guilt. Growing volumes, returning customers, thresholds to watch → a dedicated tool earns back its price in time saved. And if you do choose a tool, choose one that doesn't ask for your data in return: convenience shouldn't cost you your privacy.
